Google Reader as your knowledge management shuriken

December 30th, 2007 · No Comments

Steve Rubel has a helpful post for those struggling with a flood of unread feeds on their readers (focus is on Google Reader, but the same principles can be applied to other readers as well). If Google still had a (good) del.icio.us like tool for storing, tagging and sharing URLs that you stumble upon on the web, Google would really be a comprehensive knowledge management system. I know it has Google Bookmarks but that really doesn’t support sharing the way it should in order to be on par with del.icio.us. On top of that, you can’t add notes the the articles you read on Google Reader unless you forward them to somebody else (on del.icio.us you can do that as you save the bookmark). So for now I will definitely stick to using reader for syndicating feeds but del.icio.us for storing and sharing all the links.
