Traxmeet takes Social Sports to a New Level

February 4th, 2008 · No Comments

This is a very intriguing one indeed. Traxmeet, a virtual training community was launched some weeks ago and I’ve been eager to blog about it since then. Been busy busy busy since then, but Sunday nights are always good for blogging.
What makes this sports community especially interesting is that it is owned by Elisa, a […]

“The Future is already here…

January 24th, 2008 · 1 Comment

…it’s just not evenly distributed”, said William Gibson (a quote that has since been widely quoted by e.g. Tim O’Reilly). What better way to describe my sensation when today I saw this:

“Engineers at the University of Washington have for the first time used manufacturing techniques at microscopic scales to combine a flexible, biologically safe contact […]

Reinforcing Brand Experience

January 15th, 2008 · No Comments

I just watched the macrumors live keynote coverage from macworld full with pictures and stuff and also the video. Everything was gleaming, clean, user-friendly, well thought out - everything was working to a perfect (i)tune. The world’s most amazing (well, they say it is…) ultra portable laptop was introduced. All well and good, I thought.
Just […]

Platform as a marketing tool

January 15th, 2008 · 1 Comment

Steven Butterfield, Flickr co-founder, says here:
“Flickr was designed partly to market itself. There are a lot features, in place early on, that let people take their photo, upload it to Flickr and post them elsewhere, on their own Web site or their blog, which meant a lot of incoming links.”
What infinite wisdom lies in this […]

Google Reader as your knowledge management shuriken

December 30th, 2007 · No Comments

Steve Rubel has a helpful post for those struggling with a flood of unread feeds on their readers (focus is on Google Reader, but the same principles can be applied to other readers as well). If Google still had a (good) del.icio.us like tool for storing, tagging and sharing URLs that you stumble upon on […]

Book review: The Laws of simplicity

December 9th, 2007 · No Comments

Stumbled upon a great book this week while visiting London: The Laws of Simplicity by John Maeda is a nice general introduction to designing for simplicity and value.
John has adopted a very down to earth and accessible approach in laying out his Ten Laws of Simplicity and illuminates the different contexts to which they apply […]

Most fun I’ve had with advertising

May 3rd, 2007 · No Comments

BMW launches PACE, a Pursuit Across Europe. Advergaming is not anymore a flash banner, where you try to hit the target with the product advertised. PACE is a full-length race game through the cities of Europe in 3D! The game is divided into episodes and you can (after registration) modify your BMW by buying different […]

User generated search engines

May 2nd, 2007 · 3 Comments

Some buzz has recently been generated around Jimmy Wales’s apparent move to search engine business with Wikia Search. While it has been argued that, especially with the reported gamings of Digg and similar services, introducing a human element to online search is sure to introduce also attempts to artificially work the system, others assert […]

Mediajockeys wanted

March 26th, 2007 · 1 Comment

An issue I’ve been discussing with Sami Salmenkivi in particular: with the overflow of news, articles, research, events, videos, fun stuff, cool stuff, etc. on the web, few people, especially those leading hectic business lifestyles, have the time or the resources to follow even the developments in their own field of work, let alone all […]

The objectivity of the crowds

March 5th, 2007 · 2 Comments

There’s an enlightening article on Wired magazine on how the digital crowds can be manipulated by enterprising parties to bias the collective judgement to their own favor. A great reminder that even with large populations, the objectivity of the system can and will be tampered with, especially if the issue is left without attention.
